It came out very nicely, I think! I'll be wearing it at Further Confusion this weeked, so look for me there! Just please no pouncing or other roughhousing. It's a fragile suit, and I'm VERY blind while wearing it. I'd hate to damage it or me.

furry convention in San Jose this weekend (Jan 25 - 27)

Further Confusion (furtherconfusion.org/) is coming! The convention actually spans Thursday through Monday, but the weekends are always best. It takes place at the San Jose Doubletree Hotel, right off the 101 freeway.

If you want to see costumes that will blow you away, get inspired for next year's outing; or if you wonder if your preconceptions were right -- then this is the place for YOU!

My business bunnywarez (bunnywarez.com/) will be vending there in the Furry Marketplace, and we'll have all sorts of great surprises. Some of which I'm certain you will LOVE! :-D My partner M and I will also be DJing the main dance on Friday evening from 9:30 - 11:45 (ish), and we are also part of some panels on Sunday.

It would be great to see y'alls!

Fur suit help near San Franscico aka help me achieve my squirelly elegance

I want a squirell suit. I was thinking purple and some other color. I even have 6+yards of awesome purple fur already.

One problem: I can't seem to come up with a sewing pattern to make it. My local seamstress and I would probably do all the work except I may have the head done by a fursuiter...if I can find one I can afford.

I really want to go to the con in January so any help or opinions ASAP would be appreciated.

Did I already say I wanted a squirell suit........

You are awed by my squirelly wrath!

Anyone where these suits in the day time? I've been building a very shiny cat fursuit for halloween, but i nolonger live in a cold enough climate to wear it for any length of time.

I've already made the long legs and sleaves removable with snaps and added large opening in the armpits.

Some addition steps i've been thinking about include:
-PC fans
-ice
-peltier type drink coolers

Does anyone have experience cooling these things or incorporating the ideas i've had?

Thanks a ton!

Want to make your own furry costume, but aren't sure where to start, what pattern to use, or don't feel comfortable sewing with fur? I also do sewing and patterning consultations.

anthrocon 07 in pittsburgh, PA!

Just to start the seed germinating:

Anthrocon is one of the largest furry conventions in the country. It takes place in Pittsburgh, PA.
I am moving to Pittsburgh. In fact, I'll be settling there in just about 2 weeks.

Can FurTribe bring it to the table for Anthrocon 07?

You can all have a FREE place to stay on the southside (our house is huge!). We should rent a suite and do it up, full FurTribe style!

Who's with me? So far I have Krispy and Adrian Fox on board....

Anthrocon 2007 in Pittsburgh, PA!

Hello all!

Anthrocon is coming - July 5-8, 2007 in Pittsburgh, PA.

To attend the event, you must register and pay the entrance fee. Right now registration is just $40, a STEAL for a weekend's worth of awesome costumes, bizarre peoplewatching, strange art and craft, and virtually unlimited mayhem-causing.

http://www.anthrocon.org/registration

Prices go up to $45 as of February 1st. It's $50 at the door.

I have reserved a single hotel room for the FurTribe crew - with one king-sized bed - for general convention convenience. This will allow us to have a group space for costume changes, plotting and scheming, mixing drinks, napping between activities, torturing captured animals, etc. The hotel room is $110 per night, and I've reserved it for Friday and Saturday nights. Any donations to the hotel room fund would be appreciated.

Let the furry chaos begin!

Love,
Furry chaps?

I posted in In Disguise, but didn't get much of a response....

Anyone know of any resources for making furry chaps? Patterns available locally, hints, tips....? Anyone made these before, and have wisdom to share?

JoAnne Fabrics in Emeryville just had 50% off their fur stuff (through this weekend!), and I got some pretty blue fur for $3.50 a yard- party on!! Their selection sucks, but if you need grey or green, it's the place to be.

Flame Shapes in Fur

Hey, all:

I'm new to this tribe, and am currently working on a pair of stilt chaps that I intend to embellish with fur flames, all up the legs.

My question is this -- does anyone have any experience with cutting flame shapes out of fur? I'm envisioning this in my head and if I cut the flames with the fur nap going down, as you'd normally have it, the fur would hang down and obscure the shapes. I'm thinking of cutting the flame shapes with the fur nap pointing up, the wrong way. That would make it spiky and more flame-like, I think, and allow the flame shapes in the underlying fabric to be revealed. I have the prettiest da-glo orange silky fur with hot pink tips, and I think it would be just gorgeous on the brown faux crocodile fabric I'm using for the chaps. I don't want to have to resort to shearing the fur so as to show off the flame shapes, since that would cut off the pretty pink tips.

Am I making any sense?

Blysse

Hi furries! I'm in a bit of a dilema and need help! Me and my chap are off to a party this friday, hopefully dressed as monkeys. I've got the fur, brown for the bodies and cream for bellies, accents etc, but due to an ebay shipping mishap, it loooks like i wont get the pattern in time! I was going to use simplicity's monkey, gorilla, bear pattern but it looks like i'll have to go ahead without it.

So, does anyone out there have any advice/online patterns on contsructing the main body. I know the wrists and ankles are elaticated, but am unsure of the overall shape, is it just a case of cutting out a baggy jumpsuit? I have a boiler suit i could use as a pattern, but that still leaves the heads.

We were hoping to base the cossies on monkey costumes in the Bloodhoung gang's Bad Touch video (video.google.com/videoplay) but after experimenting with trying to make a fitted balaclava, i'm coming up empty!

MM rust fox fur X-post of DOOM!

Hi! So I know that I can't be the only person mourning the loss of Montery Mills rust colored fox fur. (If you don't know what that was, it's the fur used in this beautiful tail, http://bladespark.topcities.com/costume/lgfoxtail.jpg It's a three inch pile, super dense, super fuffy, super high quality stuff.) Since it's the perfect fur for foxes, at least cartoony ones, and isn't bad at all for real ones either, it gets used a lot.

What I want to do is to order a custom order of the stuff from Monterey Mills. I've contacted them and gotten the neccessary information. It's going to take some doing, but right now I'm in a unique position where I am able to do it. This endeavor is right now at a 90% chance of actually happening. (If I don't get more than one or two preorders, I'm not doing it, but I expect at least a few of you will be interested.) I just need a little bit of help from all of you, because the minimum order is HUGE, and I don't want to buy the whole 300 yards myself. (That's right, 300 yards!)

So here's the deal.

I'm now taking preorders. The fur comes in 15 yard rolls. You must order a whole roll to preorder. The fur is $10 a yard for preorders only. A roll is thus $150 for the entire fifteen yards. You will also have to pay shipping for the fur to get from me to you. I will charge you exact shipping, which should be in the vicinity of $25. (It will vary depending on where you live.) You must pay the entire cost of the roll up front, but I'll charge for shipping after it's arrived.

Once the fur has actually been ordered, I'll be selling it in single yard ammounts, but it will be $30 a yard then, not $10 a yard. So to get the five yards needed for a full suit from me after the preorders close, you'd have to pay $150. Hmmm... why not order now and get an entire 15 yards for that price?

If you wish to preorder, comment here. Tomorrow, once I know if there are enough people to go forward with this, I'll contact you for payment. If you can't pay now, please don't say you want a roll. (Paypal preferred, chash at your own risk, check, or money order accepted, but mail it FAST if you're mailing, as if it's not here when I place the order next week, you're out of luck.) Once I've gotten the preorder money, I'll place the order with Montery Mills. It will then be about one month while they make the fur. As soon as it arrives, I'll ship your rolls out to you, and you'll have enough fox fur to last you for quite a while!

Do not respond unless you are SURE you can commit to a whole roll.

So, who wants some fur?

Hi everyone ! Long time lurker.

I am attempting to put white hi-lights on a yellow fursuit made of polyester fur. I have tested bleach and a color removing dye, without trying to get too invasive, neither worked so well. My next attempt is to use a fabric paint. Does anyone have suggestions or similar experiences they can share?

Any advice would help. Thanks !

I'm really picky about how I want my head to come out. Particularly because I wan't to beable to equip said fursuit head with several different wigs. I've been lookin around online for fursuiters who do suit head with wigs but I'm wondering if i make it myself. how much size should I limit myself to to make tis happen?

The real questions for me are : Buy or build the head, How much could this cost, and once in possesion of either finished products, how to deal with the wig issue?

Maybe I'm just nuts(or too picky), But if I have a costume done, it should feel like an exstension of my very being. That's part of why one wears a fursiut. To almost physically be what we feel we should be. (That and to have fun! =^.^=) I am a bit of an actress so a fursuit is a new challenging costume. But also being an artist it is also a way for me to conve to the outside the fursona that is my own, not just on paper but in the "fur & flesh" .

A friend of mine suggested I post this to your tribe. I hope that's OK. If not, accept my apologies and I'll remove this thread.

I'm a future college grad. There's this supposed tradition of wearing a "Stole of Gratitude" to your graduation to honor people who have helped you through it. I plan on having 3: one for my partner (already being made commercially), one for my folks and one for my boss.

I have a nice strip of Royal Stewart (my dad's Scots and that's his clan) for my parents. I'd like to get "SFSU" and the date of my graduation embroidered on it if possible, as well as a bit of work to make it more stable. For my boss, I'll either get the traditional SF State stole, but I'd rather get one that's half white and half teal, again with SFSU and my grad date on it. White & Teal are the colors for cervical cancer awareness, and my boss is one of the leading researchers in that field.

If anyone can do this, or knows someone who can do this, hey-- I'll pay, and I'll pay well. JUst let me know. Gracias!

Fur hat? (Help with ears...grrr)

I've made a puppy "hat" before, to go with a costume, but now my boyfriend is demanding (!) a "cat hat", but not JUST a cat hat...not the simple kind you see where it's just 2 "M" shaped pieces of fabric sewn together with it sort of looking like ears...nooo, he wants a real cat hat, with little ears that have lining in them.

OK, I'm lost.

How the heck do you make the ears? The rest of the pattern, I can take from my puppy hat, but the ears...are puzzling me to death. Are they separately sewn in, or part of the pattern and stitched together cleverly?

HELLLP!

Thanks!

FurtherConfusion and Furtribe update

If you are involved with Furtribe and/or are planning on attending Further Confusion this year... listen up...

As of tonight, the hotel is *full*! It's going to be a packed house this year, with attendance estimated to be reaching the 2000 mark.

M and I did a reconnaissance mission down to the DoubleTree Hotel last week to check up on some leads and think about this year's game-plan. We're still awaiting confirmation that our reservation will place us on the party floor, so a little bit of breath holding will be necessary.

Aaron, M and I have talked briefly about having a meet-up to discuss logistics, plans and volunteer for tasks and responsibilities. This hasn't happened yet, so I'd like to propose one for very soon if at all possible.

I'll try to get a hold of a few people personally whom I am sure will be attending, but if you are at all interested in being part of the furtribe party room, please drop an YIP here in the thread or to me personally so I can begin to help organize.

We're gonna need a lot of stuff again this year to make it happen, and the efforts will certainly be well worth the rewards. Organizers (Aaron, M, me ?), Decorations (Aaron?), Sound (Aaron and M?), sign-age (Scooter?), DJs (Aaron, Pup, Tag, M, me... ?), bartender (you?), flyers, promotion, shopping, fun!

I'd like to try to have a meeting mid December or early January.

As always, input and feedback is welcome. Your help is needed to make this happen this year. It's gonna rock socks' socks!

jovino

p.s. there might be a surprise to be announced soon. But for now, mum's the word.

let's talk about fursuiters....

My partner and I have a kink-friendly podcast "FetishFlame.com" that delves into the world of fetishes.

We are very interested in represting the costume fetishists, and fursuiters in an upcoming show. And we want to make sure we do it properly. Many people will ask us - "what's the difference?" And while we know there are differences, it's hard to put a voice to it.

I would love talk via email and ask some questions and get a better sense of what it means to be a fursuiter (as opposed to a furry, etc)
We would keep your identity completely anonymous if prefer not to be mentioned on the air.

Thank you! This groups seems to have more fun than most of the others, so I'm really hoping someone here can help me out!

Here are some of the questions I have in mind:
When did you first start being aroused by wearing animal costumes?
Are you equally turned on by seeing someone in a fursuit as being in one yourself?

If you could concoct the ideal suit and setting what would it be?

thanks again - I hope to hear from some of you!
xoxo

On a random Indian TV show there was a prince fighting with a... cat? It was a woman in this tight-fitting black suit with armwarmers and legwarmers and face paint. When she attacked the guy, they overdubbed loud "MREOWWWW!" noises. KWALITY TV!

okay, so i'm making a squirrel costume and i'm having probs with the head. it's mascot-style so i'm using black screen for the eyes, but the head's all weird! i don't know how to make it keep its shape. has anyone done this before that can give me some pointers/instructions? so far i've tried: screen frame, gluing to a batting helmet, making a lining and stuffing it (that was a disaster). HELP, HELP, HELP!
cheerio!

A good friend of mine, Ferris Plock (http://www.ferrisplock.com/) is having an art opening here in San Francisco this month. He has asked me to invite all my furry friends to attend to build a hype about his show. So, I am inviting everyone here to come on by and be a part of a crazy evening.

Fur is in now at the fabric stores!

For those of you looking for fake fur for Playa coats and outfits (or craving a new critter costume) Jo-Ann fabrics has their fur in now. I've also seen some at Hancock fabrics but not as much selection. Buy it now before the Halloween costumers discover it.

If you sign up for Jo-Ann's mailing list, you will get coupons for 40% off every week or two. Their fur is about $25 per yard full price so the coupon makes it more affordable.

Yours in blinding day-glo furryness,

i know that fire and fur don't sound compatible, but i promise we won't torch you if you show up in something synthetic! we're throwing a fundraiser party for my burning man art project, and i would *LOVE* to see some of you there. particularly since i haven't made it out to a party to see you fabulous folks in ages! it's going to be a kickass event with lots of tasty food and pretty fire!

***

TASTEE FLAME!
A Fundraiser for Dance Dance Immolation

**Saturday, June 4th at 9pm**
at the Cracktory in SF
$10-$20 sliding scale

We are going to shoot people, and by people we mean you, with flamethrowers. Really. The kind that are on fire.

Dance Dance Immolation is like Dance Dance Revolution (the video game where you dance on the pads), but on the playa with fire! Put on a fireproof suit and play a few rounds. Scoring well wins you acclaim from flame cannons, scoring poorly wins you a propane blast in the face! We promise not to burninate you... too much...

Come support our crazy pyro dream, and enjoy fire-spewing cake! Burn-your-own creme brulée! Plenty of tasty pyro desserts and snacks and other treats and surprises!

Two rooms of music: downtempo for flaming food and techno/breaks for flaming booties. Djs Mermaid, Jovino, Pyrokitten, and more!

We'll also raffle off a flamethrower, because we like fire SO MUCH. Fire Makes Everything Better.

The Cracktory is located in Hunters Point, San Francisco. For directions and more information: www.interpretivearson.com

So, who out there shares my appreciation of evil fursuits?

I started with Cupcake and Creampuff, two heads of the same creature, sorta (lots of shared costume parts). Armored cyborg bear and bear-killing armored bunny. I'm hoping to "pretty up" both of these suits before burningman.. maybe give Death Guild a bit of a reality check :)

Hey- just wanted to give you all a heads-up for a huge event coming up on 3/5.

Solstinox will be a great place to wear your furry costumes and enjoy a little bit of Burning Man in the city. I'll be there. Come join me! Here's the info:

Friends of Curtis Present:
Burning Solstinox: Connections –March 5, 2005 8PM-4AM @ SOMArts, 934 Brannan St in SF
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Once a year, on the midpoint between burns when we are farthest in time from any, we come together to celebrate Burning Solstinox - a holiday of hope, rebirth, love and the creative thrill of radical participation, when we experience playa joys in default. This year ’s theme is “Connections ”, and we invite you to create some by making magic with us in an amazing space. Don ’t miss this one; we ’ll be halfway home!

We do this all volunteer, totally non-commercial, and following the 10 Burning Man principles, so radically include yourself and participate. Help create an outrageous evening in a burning village that will keep that rocking playa vibe alive for another six months - there ’s no better way to switch your psyche from its vault of dusty memories to new visions of chaos.

This year ’s event is a FUNraiser benefit for Friends of Curtis, and we ’ve lined up the area ’s best DJ ’s, dazzling lighting, insane lasers, eye-popping visuals, blacklit bars, super cozy chill spaces, and lots of special playa style amusements sure to please all your senses. Plus, a raffle & silent auction for one-of-a-kind burner gifts and experiences, and even free coffee when it ’s time to go! Every bit of it gifted, by burners for burners. All proceeds go directly to saving this burning musician ’s life and voice from cancer (www.friendsofcurtis.com).

$15.93 presale, $20 at the door. There ’s no ATM; bring extra cash for amusements, bar & raffle.
For advance tix and info, visit www.solstinox.com; email participate@solstinox.com to help!

Because some nights are so special they only come once a year …

Any Fursuiters want to come out on Friday?

I'm gonna be doing a set of Electro dance music at a new club that's opening this Friday. I'm pretty excited (and a tad nervous) about it. I plan on wearing my fox fursuit for the whole night. Do any fursuiters want to come up and hear me (and the other dj's of course) play? It'll help me relax if I can look out into the crowd and see a few ears.

Let me know, and I might be able to get you comped.

Details are on the club's web site at http://shadowplaysf.com/

LA furries exposed!

CBS showed a 10 minute section on the life of furries at 11pm last night, and Aimee was one of the star interviews. Of course they were pushing the sex side of the issue, but most of thier footage was of our birthday party gathering for Da Bomb before we got on the double decker bus, and none of us had much to say about that side, we just like wearing furry suits! I guess that isnt to newsworthy...

The effectwe had on the streets of dowtown LA was incredible though. We had a live dj and everyone whooping it up on top of the bus, and it was like a goodwill tour, leaving folks waving and dancing, and kids dazzled by the big bright furry people. It was sortof like Santa con without the edge. Good times.

Working on a gryphon suit

Well, I'm working on a suit that involves some bird like aspects. I am curious if anyone has done such a thing or may have some ideas.

The issue is that I want to be very realistic, but the bird I am using for the part of the gryph is pretty much all white except for black on the tips of the tail and wings and has blue skin ( yes skin) around the eyes.
I'm not finding much for white at all.

The plan is to have the body white as well, being that it will be along side a blue jay gryph as well.
Ideas?

2. Pre-Registration cut-off date

We'd like to remind everyone who haven't yet registered who are coming to
Further Confusion this year that the pre-reg cut-off date is 11:59pm
Thursday December 30th. Our online pre-reg system will close at this time,
and mail-in applications will need to be postmarked with Thursday's date.

After this time, you will have to register on-site at the convention.

At the con, our registration desks will open for Pre-Reg pickup at 4pm on
Thursday afternoon, and we will start selling at-con memberships at 5pm.
Registration will close at 10pm that evening. A complete listing of
Registration hours is on our website at
<http://www.furtherconfusion.org/fc2005/registration.php>.

3. Our hotel is full!

Our hotel, the Doubletree San Jose, has sold out of all its regular rooms
completely. For those who have left booking a room until now, there are
still a couple of options available to you.

There may still be rooms available on the executive levels for some
nights, if you're willing to pay the hotel's standard (non-convention)
price. Please contact the DoubleTree directly to enquire about
availability if interested. When we last checked, these rooms were going
for between $160-$200/night.

There are a number of hotels within half a mile of the DoubleTree, which
we have posted their contact information on our forums at
<http://www.furtherconfusion.org/forums/msg.php?th=396>. There are no
special arrangements that Further Confusion has made with these hotels,
and so you will need to deal with them directly to make a reservation.

The deadlines for fursuit floor and party floor requests has already
passed, and the rooms on these floors are all filled.

4. Dealers Room hours and list of merchants

Hours for the Dealer's Room, as well as a list of merchants and table
assignments are available from our website at

5. Art show hours and list of exhibitors

our website at <http://www.furtherconfusion.org/fc2005/artshow.php>

6. Other opening hours of note

The Fursuit Lounge, which will again be located behind the Main Stage
(upstairs ballroom) will be open Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 1:00pm
to 1:00am.

The Con Suite will be located in Room 252 (on the Party Floor of the
hotel) and opens Friday at 8am. It will be open 24 hours a day until
Monday 4:00pm.

The Creator's Lounge has moved this year to the Silicon Valley room,
above the registration area and across the upstairs lobby from the Main
Stage areas. We are really excited about the sunny windows, better
ventilation, and larger space. The Creator's Lounge will open at 4:00pm on
Friday, be open for 24 hours a day, closing at 12:00pm on Monday. There
will be display spaces to advertise private art slams. Reference material
for Further Confusion's theme - Furries on the Nile - will also be
available here.

<http://www.furtherconfusion.org/fc2005/hours.php>

7. Furly Edition #0 Deadline

The deadline for Furly Edition #0 is January 3rd. Furly Edition is our
daily newsletter that is produced and made available each day of the
convention. Edition #0 will be the version that is available on Thursday
afternoon. Any events that might need to know about before the convention
starts can be submitted to marketing@furtherconfusion.org for printing in
Furly Edition #0.

News for Furly Edition can be submitted to our con suite by 5:00pm each
day. Articles received by this time will be printed in the next day's
newsletter.

8. Fursuit Badges

Further Confusion will be continuing the tradition it started with
providing costumers with Fursuit Badges, which allow you - when in costume
- access to all areas of the convention where a badge is required. You can
get a fursuit badge made during the regular opening hours of
Registration, starting Friday morning.

The first Fursuit badge is free with your regular membership. If you
wish for additional badges, each badge costs $5.

We are sorry, but we are not accepting pictures for Fursuit badges
before the convention this year. They will be available 'at-con' only.

9. Single Day Registration costs

The prices for single day memberships are as follows:

Thursday only $20
Saturday only $30
Monday only $20

As a reminder, the at-con price for a full membership is $50. If you plan
to be at the convention and attend events on two or more days, it is
cheaper for you to get the full membership. To attend a panel or event,
you must have a valid membership.
Further Confusion Tribe Space

I posted this on SFBay Furries, but I'm also going to post it here, cause i don't know how many people use that group. And this one seems to have more traffic. Forgive the cross post if you've seen both, just trying to reach some people.

Oh, and if don't already know http://www.furtherconfusion.com is a fan based furry convention in a hotel in San Jose in January. About 1500 people attend from all over the place, and they have workshops, parties, and all kinds of things. One thing that happens is they dedicate a whole floor to rooms for people who want to host a public event in the hotel room. And you can do pretty much whatever you want with the rooms (move furniture, decorate, etc).

Most of us already have our own rooms elsewhere in the hotel we will be sleeping in, as do I. But in addition I am going to book a room for Friday and Saturday night, that we can use however we want. All together, that should be about $240 dollars. If everyone who can chips in $20, we should have no problem getting that. I think what I will do is set up a paypal account for donations. (Or come talk to me when I see you in public next)

And with that out of the way, we can start to plan what to do with the room. So far I'm seeing a public room where we can do whatever we want. I think it would especially be great to use it to do things you'd like to do to give to the general public, but you don't have an official con space for this. Want to be a dj for a couple hours, you can do that. Want to have a meet or workshop with people on a particular topic, do it. Want to show your all time favorite furry film, or display some of your art. You can do it.

I also think it would be cool to keep the space going 24/7 while we have it. Always having something going on. While all the official con events are all fun, some people prefer to stick to the hotel rooms because for them a furry con is all about the social environment. Others don't go to the hotel rooms for reasons such as they don't know anyone in a social scene or know much about it. Running a room at the con can be a fun way to give something back to the community while having fun doing your own thing at the same time. And who knows, if we do a good job of it, maybe they'll give us a free room next year.

As for equipment, I'll bring my sound system, and can also bring a digital projector.

So what all should we do with the room, let's get some ideas flowing!

The costume will need to be customized so it doesn't need to be in perfect shape but I need quality material; there's some mighty bad acrylic fur out there

Hi all... Tag here...
I'm going to have fabric and a pattern here real soon to make a suit (similar to the kind that Aaron and some of the other Bunnies have, but different species). I was wondering if anyone wanted to help me with the sewing? Reimbursment is a definite possibility.

I'de like to get this done for FC in January.

Thankspurr!
2. Con Book Update
3. Masquerade Entries wanted
4. Extreme Fursuiting Make Over.
5. Badge Art wanted.
6. Fursuit & Party floor requests. Hotel update.
7. Event Panel Submissions
8. Charity Items

.oOo.

1. Furry Variety Show - Furry Night Live!

Attention Furry and Fursuiting World:

While it may be a few months until Further Confusion 2005, if you've
got performer blood in you that's boiling, then it's that time to
start thinking about getting back onto the stage - the FC Main Stage,
that is!

This year the Furry Variety Show (FVS) - with the emphasis on Variety,
performance and, of course, whacky fun - will be subtitled "Furry
Night Live!" Furs will be asked to organized into 'troupes' (like on
Saturday Night Live, Mad TV, or Second City TV), plan, write their
skits and rehearse them in advance. Because of this, acts performed by
these troupes will be allowed to go over the former skit limits if,
and only if, they are approved in advance. Individual performances
will be limited to 3 minutes. As usual, the FVS is a non-competitive
and non-judged show for the entertainment of Further Confusion's
members.

So, if you want to do magic, a comedy routine, dance to 'Walk Like an
Egyptian, play your kazoo, juggle flaming bowling pins (providing
they're not lit, of course), or perform that silly act that you've
wanted to do for months - in or out of costume, with or without a
puppet, alone or in a stage breaking group - then the FVS is for you!

For more information contact FVS Lead Scruff E. Coyote at
fvs@furtherconfusion.org.

To subscribe to the official FVS discussion email list, go to
http://www.furtherconfusion.org/fc2005/fvs_signup.php

2. Con Book Update

The deadline for the Convention Program Book is December 3rd, 2004. Further
Confusion is accepting black and white artwork, stories, photographs,
and any other related conbook material. We can accept material in
TIFF, EPS and PDF formats. If you have a JPEG file, please try to send
it to us at the highest resolution possible. Artwork can be either
8.5"x11", 8.5"x5.5", or 4.25"x5.5" in size. Stories may be in either
Rich Text (RTF) or DOC format. If you are submitting a story, please
include your name in the story file so we are able to properly credit
you.

Also, please name files that you provide to us something logical, so
that we know who they were submitted by. For example, a piece done by
Joe Public could be named jpublic_Gryphons_at_Dawn.tiff.

We do have an upload site for images that are too large to send to us
by email. By 'too large', we mean larger than 5MB in size. Please send
submissions and questions to conbook@furtherconfusion.org. This is
also where to ask about details for the upload site.

Our Convention Book guidelines are posted in full detail on our

3. Masquerade Entries wanted

The Masquerade is now open for entries. Our Masquerade is a judged
event with three categories: Novice, Journeyman and Master.

- Novice class is for new people and requires that you have never
been in a judged event before.
- Journeyman is for those who have one at least one award in a judged
event before.
- The Master category is for those that have won Best of Show, Best
of Class, or other such titles in events before.

Entrants may compete in categories above that which they must be in,
but may not compete in categories lower. For example, someone who is
presenting for the first time anywhere could compete in Journeyman if
they so wished, but anyone who has won at Master level could not
compete in Journeyman or Novice.

Masquerade entries are to be less than two minutes in length. We are
always excited to see new creations, and from new people. If you've
never entered a masquerade before, this is an excellent opportunity.

For more information, send email to masquerade@furtherconfusion.org

To subscribe to the official Masquerade discussion email list, go to

4. Extreme Fursuiting Make Over.

We have an exciting new event for Further Confusion this year -
Extreme Fursuiting Makeover!

The best names in the business have generously offered to donate their
time and skill at FC to remake one lucky fursuit. That's right, now
you don't have to choose between a White_Fox, Ryngs, LatinVixen, Dogz,
Jax or Brokken suit - you can have one built by ALL of them, and best
of all, for free! That is only a partial list of the makers that have
agreed to participate, they are all stars.

The panel will be on Saturday early afternoon - the exact time will be
announced - and will be in front of a live audience.

These are the rules:
- You may not contact the fursuit makers directly about this event.
The decision will be made as a team. Anyone contacting a maker
about this event will be immediately disqualified. The team is
adamant about this and there will be NO exceptions.
- The suit that will be madeover will be chosen based on the following
criteria:
. A good character idea not living up to its full potential.
. It can be remade into something spectacular within the alloted
time (2 hours) - The fursuit makers will decide this, of course.
. The makers have the materials or you have enough left over to
redo it. . Reasonable practicality. It will be the same character,
just better.
- You must actually own the suit to submit it for consideration.
- You must have pictures you can share through email. We need front,
back and side views.
- This event will be filmed by FCTV
- The fursuit will be seen 'before' and 'after' by the audience
- It is up to the owner of the costume if they wish to do a walk-on
of the remade suit at the Masquerade.
- It is up to the discretion of the fursuit makers as to whether
'factory' (Marylen, Facemaker, etc) suits can be remade. Please do
submit these suits if you wish to attempt having them madeover.
- The deadline for entries is November 15, 2004.
- The decision as to which suit will be remade will be made by
December 15, 2004. The winner will be notified directly by the
Fursuit Makeover co-ordinator (Toraneko)
- Anyone contacting the fursuit makers about this WILL be
disqualified. It's a serious enough rule to mention twice.
- Last but not least. You must be an attending member of Further
Confusion.

If you are interested you will get a better suit, for free. There will
be time before the actual construction begins - 30 minutes before the
panel for you to meet with the fursuit makers and share some ideas.
You will relinquish creative control after that. You will get a
wearable suit. You will not dictate every detail. These guys are
masters, if you cannot trust them, this isn't for you.

Send submissions in to toranekom@yahoo.com _ONLY_. Please, make sure
they are a small enough size that they don't get rejected by the mail
server.

5. Badge Art wanted.

Artists! Further Confusion needs badge art for the inserts to
membership badges, and is seeking submissions.

Both Color and Black & White artwork will be accepted, and all artwork
will be considered on an overall 'look and feel', plus these
additional points:
- Art must scale to be printed at 4"x2"
- Art must accurately reflect the theme of the con, "Furries of the
Nile"
- Art must be suitable for viewing by all age groups.

Artists submitting images should be aware that there is no payment for
badge art chosen, and the artist gives Further Confusion the right to
reproduce the image as badge art for FC2005. The artist will be
credited on the insert and in the convention Program Book. The artist
retains all other copyrights and reproduction rights beyond the above.

The deadline for badge art submission is October 15, 2004. All
qualifying submissions will be seriously considered and 6 designs will
be chosen. All artists will be notified by November 1, 2004 as to
whether or not their submissions have been chosen.

We prefer JPEG format at best possible quality compression at 300
DPI. An 8"x4" original scanned at this resolution will give us a good
file to work with.

Badge art Submissions should be sent to registration@furtherconfusion.org.
In the email specify how you wish to be credited should your art be chosen.

6. Fursuit & Party floor requests. Hotel update.

If you want to have a room on the Fursuit floor, you need to make a
regular room reservation with the hotel and get the reservation/confirmation
number. One you have this number, send an email requesting a room on
the Fursuit floor to hotel@furtherconfusion.org.

The deadline for Fursuit floor requests is December 18, 2004.

Also, if you want to have a public party during Further Confusion,
you may request a room on the party floor. The only requirement is that you
have a public party during the con that anyone may attend. The process
is the same for getting a fursuit room. First you have to make a
reservation with the hotel and they will give a reservation number.
That number and request should go to hotel@furtherconfusion.org and
should included a description of the party and which night(s) you wish
to have the party for.

The deadline for Party Room Requests is December 1, 2004

Finally from the hotel, there are still a small number of suites
available. These suites give you that extra luxury of spreading out,
and provide fabulous views over San Jose and the Norman Y. Mineta
Interational Airport. A parlor suite is $225 per night, and are
booked in the same way as described above. Book a regular room, get
your confirmation number, and email that number and your request to
hotel@furtherconfusion.org.

7. Event Panel Submissions

Do you have an idea for a panel? Are there panels and events you want
to see at Further Confusion? Send us your ideas! Submissions for
events and panels should go to events@furtherconfusion.org with a
short description of the panel or event you wish to see or do.
Do you have an idea for a panel? Are there panels and events you want=20
to see at Further Confusion? Send us your ideas! Submissions for events=20=

and panel should go to events@furtherconfusion.org with a short=20
description of the panel or event you wish to see or do.

8. Charity Items

We are looking for items to auction off in our Charity auction. We
have two charities this year, Therapy Pets and Friends of Lulu. Items
for the Charity auction should be of significant value. Not that we
don't mind some of your older items and art, but we've had enough of
old 486 PCs and Mac SE40's for a while. If you do have items to
donate, please send email to charity@furtherconfusion.org.

damn I love my favorite thrift stores! I just got a rad bearsuit off the kid's halloween costume rack for 2 bucks. I feel like i won the lottery!

Also, My cornhead outfit had some fun at Burning Man, even without the EL wire improvements. One of my favorite moments there was riding past a guy in a big banana suit on a bike who was shouting sadly to nobody "I am not an elephant! I am a banana!"

Well, it seems that SF has gone and sold the naming rights to Candlestick park to the Monster Cable Co., so now it's going to be "Monster Park." I generally hate corporate naming of public spaces....but "Monster Park" sounds pretty cool, you'll have to admit!

Any comments from the monsters here?

Hi, all.

I finally finished my Purple Puppy costume in time for Burning Man, due to Ms. Morley's help and infinite patience.... but some of the initial inspiration came from lurking here, and checking out all of the threads and pictures posted here.

So thanks..... and there's a picture of the completed outfit on the 2nd page of my profile...I'd post a direct link, but my FTP isn't workin' at the moment....

I just snagged a half cut out chipmunk outfit with the pattern included (simplicity 9305) off the back rack of my favorite christian thrift store in seattle this weekend. I was almost doing carwheels! (I also bought the almost complete "Bibleman SuperHero" kids costume, but that's another story...you gotta wonder about the creative meetings at TBN that create kid shows like this. It's a long way from Davy and Goliath)
I'll be altering it to be my doe. Perfect lightweight fur that doesn't need lining. what a find! and for 2 bucks!
