I want a squirell suit. I was thinking purple and some other color. I even have 6+yards of awesome purple fur already.

One problem: I can't seem to come up with a sewing pattern to make it. My local seamstress and I would probably do all the work except I may have the head done by a fursuiter...if I can find one I can afford.

I really want to go to the con in January so any help or opinions ASAP would be appreciated.

Did I already say I wanted a squirell suit........

You are awed by my squirelly wrath!

  • As far as getting a pattern, there are a few different ways to do it. You can take a pattern for a long sleeved shirt and merge it at the waist with a pattern for a pair of pants, leave out all the fiddly bits like pockets, add a zipper to the back, and you're good to go. Or there are the jumpsuit patterns meant specifically for animal costumes which you can get. I think Simplicity makes one, and maybe McCall's too. Those are very baggy, but work well enough.

If you know how to draft, you can draft one, of course, which is my usual method, but I assume if you knew that you wouldn't be asking.

Another very excellent way is to make duct tape pattern. Get some old clothes that you don't care about, and a friend, and a couple of rolls of duct tape. Wearing the old clothes, cover yourself in duct tape, until you're a duct tape mummy. They cut the tape off. Then you can cut it up into pieces, add a seam allowance, and ta-da, pattern that fits you like a second skin!

Hope some of those ideas prove helpful.
